Hardly three weeks into 2018, there have already been 11 shootings on school grounds in the United States, nearly one every two days.On Tuesday, a shooting in Kentucky that left two 15-year-old students dead drew national attention but there have been 10 other shootings on school grounds already this year, resulting in three more deaths. 2018 has already seen 13 mass shootings, too — an incident in which four or more people are shot or killed, not including the shooter.... Public Debate:
How High Is Our Capacity for Carnage? It's time for a federal ban on high-capacity magazines.
When the gunfire that was spraying the parking lot of a grocery store in Tucson momentarily stopped, an injured woman sprang into action – grabbing a magazine that the perpetrator had just dropped in an attempt to reload. He had already emptied his first magazine. It held 33 bullets. But he couldn't continue his deadly spree, because the moment of pause provided just enough time to thwart him. This heroic effort almost certainly saved lives, and it could've saved more if... to continue reading click HERE
House Could Make Concealed Carry Permits Valid Across State Lines
The House is expected to pass legislation on Wednesday that would make firearm concealed carry permits valid across state lines.
The bill, which the National Rifle Association has called its top legislative priority, would treat concealed carry permits more like drivers licenses, authorizing gun owners to travel with their firearms to other states that allow concealed carry. They say the measure would help otherwise law-abiding gun owners to avoid unwittingly violating conflicting.... to continue reading click HERE

Current Gun Control Legislation
When there is doubt over the meaning of the Constitution, it falls to the courts to interpret the words of the founding fathers. In general (although not in every instance), American courts have demonstrated support for gun control legislation. In a landmark 1999 case, District Judge Sam R. Cummings cited the Second Amendment to protect the right of an individual to own and carry a firearm even when under a restraining order.... to continue reading click HERE
Concealed Carry Reciprocity Passes U.S. House of Representatives!
In a resounding show of support for the Second Amendment, the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a legislative package that included H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, and H.R. 4477, the Fix NICS Act of 2017. The bipartisan vote of 231 to 198 advanced a measure that would allow law-abiding Americans who are eligible to carry a concealed handgun under the law of a state to do so in all other U.S. states and territories that recognize the right of their own residents to carry concealed. Without a doubt, this is the strongest piece of self-defense legislation to ever come before Congress. It would also help shore up the National Instant Criminal Background Check System used for licensing... to continue reading click HERE
Tackling Gun Violence
“The Pentagon’s Indifference to Gun Safety” (editorial, Nov. 29) makes strong points about the importance of improving the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. But to create real change, we must enact permit-to-buy policies; prohibit those with a history of violent misdemeanors, hate crimes and all domestic violence from getting access to guns; ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines; and enact extreme risk protection orders, which allow family members and/or law enforcement... to continue reading click HERE
What You Need to Know About 3D Printed Guns and Why You Don’t Need to Fear them
In the early hours of Sunday June 12th, a lone gunman armed with a SIG Sauer MCX semi-automatic rifle burst into the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida and over the next several hours murdered 49 people and injured another 53. The dead were primarily Latinx members of the LGBTQ community, the shooter presumably motivated by homophobia or religious extremism. It was both the deadliest act of violence directed at the LGBTQ community and the deadliest mass shooting in US history. Even with the seemingly endless string of mass shootings that seems to have desensitized us to gun violence, the Orlando massacre is hard to.... to continue reading click HERE
