In America many people have asked for more strict gun laws, unfortunately these laws have not effectively stopped the gun violence that they were created to prevent. I have written three research essays attempting to find the answer to solving the gun crisis in America. My research has found that we need to look at mental health as a culprit for many of these issues. Many of the mass shootings that have happened recently have involved guns that have been legally purchased, this proves that these laws are not effective in preventing violent criminals from purchasing firearms. These laws, in writing, should work. They unfortunately fail due to poor background check systems and illegal firearms that are in circulation. Therefore, the only way to prevent gun violence is to stop mentally unstable people from obtaining firearms by having a more in depth background check system. To prevent violence with illegal firearms, arming other citizens to be able to defend the rest of the population may be the only course of action. The war on drugs has shown that trying to cease illegal sales of drugs is impossible to prevent completely. Why would a war on guns go any differently.
3D Printed Guns:
3D Guns may sound scary, but in fact they are hardly a threat. The process to making a 3D printed gun is actually very complicated and not cheap or easy to make. When designing the gun, none of the moving parts can be complicated due to the limitations of 3D printing. A proper metal 3D printer costs anywhere from $10,000-$50,000 which would be very inconvenient for a criminal who can buy any sort of gun for much much less
